Originally housed on 56th Street in Manhattan, in the New York Conservatory of Dance, the International Martial Arts Institute was formed by Professor Robert J. Cooper in 1978.

Currently affiliated schools and instructors can be found in Brooklyn, NY; Baltimore, MD; Chicago, IL; Indianapolis, IN and South Bend, IN. Look for new schools to develop soon in Dallas, TX; Toronto, Canada; Portland, OR.

 
Cooper Ryu Vee Jitsu
Under the vision and leadership of Prof. Robert J. Cooper, the martial arts system of Cooper Ryu Vee Jitsu developed. Based in Vee Jitsu Ju Jitsu, Prof. Cooper incorporates the attacks and defense of Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do.

Prof. Robert J. Cooper
Professor Cooper is a gifted martial artist, boxer and instructor training with the late Professor Vee - Supreme Grandmaster Florendo Visitacion. Before his death, Professor Vee passed his Vee Jitsu Jujitsu style on to Professor Cooper.

In 1968, Prof. Cooper attended New York University where he practiced Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do under Duk Sung Son. Grandmaster Son soon asked Professor Cooper to teach Tae Kwon Do in Brooklyn. Professor Cooper's instruction produced many tournament champions including Brenda "Quicksilver" King; Jacklyn  Sackey; Michael Medina; Gregory "Great" Scott; "Little Jose" Velez; Robert Allen; Gary Cooper; Frank Edwards; Kevin Edwards.

Professor Cooper has taught at Junior High School 50 in Brooklyn, NY as well at the 92nd Street YMYWHA. As President of the Part Time Student Government Association of New York City Community College he produced three big 1978 and 1979 Capoeira shows titled "The Capoeiras of Bahia” featuring Jelon G. Vieira and Loremil Machado. Professor Cooper has written many articles for the NYCCC Arts and Sciences student newspaper on the Angola, African roots of Capoeira, the oriental roots of other martial arts, the technique of finding a good martial arts school. Professor continues to give seminars today.
